Yes.
The manufacturers generally provide no information about Linux
compatibility. So that one person would have to research each model of
laptop his store carries, which would take some time. And update the
list every time the hardware changes in a newer revision or different
batch of the same model laptop.
It is not easy, by any stretch of the imagination.
