The bad capacitor problem is less a problem of the production date
than rather a problem of production quality. You can save a few
yen using a cheaper capacitor and the customer will not notice it
until a few months or years later.

If you choose the power supplies that have a comparable price as the
old AT supplies, then you still get good capacitors and hence long life.
