Quick first impressions from booting a ~2 week old Ubuntu 12.04 beta DVD
on the HP Envy 15 that just arrived:
-Display: 1920 x 1080, looks great
-Touchpad works out of the box. 2-finger scrolling works out of the box
-Screen brightness controls work out of the box
-Wireless works out of the box
-Sound controls work out of the box
-BIOS has options for Dynamic or Fixed graphics switch mode, but I need
to find/read some documentation as to what exactly that means. Sounds
potentially helpful for Linux.
-Very fast, even when running from a live DVD.
Overall impression: fully the equal, and in some ways the superior
(display, price) of a 15" MacBook Pro. The only point of criticism I
have is that the touchpad doesn't have the smooth, glossy feel that the
MBP's has. I think I'm going to live with that one, though. This machine
seems to work really well on Linux. I think HP has a winner here.
