Sorry, I did miss the bit on X10.

If I understand it correctly, I'd have to have a USB device plugged
into my Android phone. Do-able, I suppose.

However, all said and done, I think the suggestion that I just get an
old laptop is probably the easiest over all.

Or, maybe if I wait a little while, there will be Android tablets
hitting the 5000 yen range that I can use.
