Johan, Stephen, Marjan, David, Edmund, Jep, Stuart, Thank you all for the great advice. I don't know what crazy under world magic is involved in this command: perl -i.bak -p texfile.txt ... but it did something to my file that now makes it upload properly. Huh. I think this time I definitely am not going to try to get deeper into this. Perl scares me. Thanks for all the information and suggestions! -- Dave M G
