Hi all,
until recently I used
xterm -en UTF-8 -fg white -bg black -fn -Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--18-120-100-100-C-90-ISO10646-1 -e bash
to open terminals, then switched with uim-xim the input-mode
and entered Hiragana/Kanji.
This stopped on my linux-installations, just white boxes are seen
instead of Hiragana/Kanji.
Viewing a utf8-file works thou, accessing mails with Kanji in mutt
no longer works, same for entering Japanese in irssi.
After pressing <strg>+rightmousekey and selecting font 'Large' all
works again, but I didnt see a way to get this configured
automatically.
This different font works without further interaction, but is
inconveniently big:
  xterm -fn -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-ja-18-120-100-100-c-180-iso10646-1
urxvt works for me:
urxvt -fg white -bg black -sb -fn -Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--18-120-100-100-C-90-ISO10646-1 -e bash
but takes longer to load.
Also i tried different fonts with xterm, a listing of the available fonts
comes back from executing “xlsfonts”. Visually trying out all these
18.000 installed fonts doesnt seem practical thou..
Any good ideas or do i have to live with urxvt for now?
Christian
