And > autostart only stuff you really need. Puppy Linux is made for such things, I believe. There's also #!Crunchbang, built off Ubuntu with the OpenBox window manager. (There's also now an ArchBang, which would probably be even better.) As Linux tries more and more to be like Windows, (yeah, I'm a troll, what can I say, but sheesh--look at the changes in Ubuntu and Fedora--gotta love Fedora's packagekit allowing any user to update any installed signed package without any authentication--ok, they've surpassed Windows, no more of those pesky passwords), at any rate, ironically, some of the newer desktop oriented distributions probably require more resources than XP. I would say that one of the *box desktops, rather than XFCE, might even be a better choice--I think there's even a Mint with fluxbox.
