I don't have the hardware, but have you tried this:
echo toplight: on > /proc/cpia/video0

http://mailman.risc.uni-linz.ac.at/pipermail/cpia/2001-December/001139.html
http://graflex.org/klotz/qx3/

It seems to be unsupported in recent kernels (lack of sysfs support),
but should work with 2.6.15:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/84470/comments/3

Looking at the sources for 2.6.22 it should work:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.32.y.git;a=history;f=drivers/media/video/cpia.c;h=2377313c041a8c33976db18f0c1ef7a698c94bd6;hb=22763c5cf3690a681551162c15d34d935308c8d7

and the buffer overflow was fixed since 2007
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.32.y.git;a=commit;h=13071f0a58f285eee81f63c917078bb2a48cf51e

Cheers,
Kalin.
