RH5.3 will be using older versions of most
things--often, I wind up (with CentOS) being unable to install something
because gcc or glibc is too old.  

It would be interesting if you can try it on Fedora (or anything with
later versions of gcc.

I assume this is an HP installer?  It seems that some people have just
used hplip.
