If you're looking for an alternative, I'd go with a Mac Mini. I've owned two in the past, and the cheap price, and rock solid hardware have worked well for me. My previous machine dual-booted both Mac OS X and I think Ubuntu. That worked out nicely enough, though my wife didn't like the dual-booting, so I had to run Linux/BSD off of VMbox on the second host we got. Minis are not powerful, so forget about gaming, but for basic needs, the price/stability and now Pentium architecture can't be beat. :) On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 1:37 PM, Christian Horn<chorn@example.com> wrote: > On Wed, Jul 01, 2009 at 05:12:34PM -0600, Pietro Zuco wrote: >> >> On Wed, 24 Jun 2009 19:42:59 +0200, Christian Horn <chorn@example.com> >> wrote: >> >> > But if you know for sure you will need a proprietary driver any- >> > way because of the requirements of your applications then nvidia >> > should be preferred; less pain to install. >> >> I'm little bit lost with this. >> If I have to work with proprietary drivers that maybe will force me to use >> only one distribution or a reduce set of them? > > If you need the best performance because of games or 3d-applications > you have to use proprietary drivers, either of amd or nvidia. > Of those two drivers the one from nvidia is easier to use. > > Probably both can be used with all distros but the newest ones > like fedora11 currently. > > > Christian > > -- > To unsubscribe from this mailing list, > please see the instructions at http://lists.tlug.jp/list.html > > The TLUG mailing list is hosted by the award-winning Internet provider > ASAHI Net. > Visit ASAHI Net's English-language Web page: http://asahi-net.jp/en/ > -- Doug McLean Blog: http://nihonshukyo.wordpress.com/
