This is very true. But The Salaryman Way exists in the US, as well. I
worked with many people who were content to come to work at 9, leave
at 5, and learn nothing new, ever.

Interestingly enough, I have come to believe strongly in the 9-5
workday, as it forces me to time-box myself and be smarter about
planning. But the learning new things part of TASM (The Anti-Salaryman
Way) is not optional.
