All gbit-switches should allow the communicating hosts to saturate 
their gbit-interface, i also think the backplanes of all currently
sold switches are good enough so all interfaces can be saturated
together.

To transfer more data between hosts in a given timeframe the switch 
should be able to support trunking/bonding/however they call it; 
so using multiple gbit-interfaces together for more bandwidth.

That wont help in case better latency is needed - infiniband,
myrinet or the like could provide that but at higher costs.
