I'd been running the 8.04 beta (of the normal Gnome version) on and off,
and upgraded today.  Somehow, it removed a bunch of modules, so I had no
sound.  A bit of searching on their forums seems to reveal various
people with similar issues.  In my case, I was able to fix it with
something like apt-get install linux-modules-kernel-$(uname -r).  (The
package name might have been somewhat different. 

I was fairly disappointed--I hold Ubuntu to higher standards, since
their stated number one bug is that Windows is more popular.  
Not that other distros (or Windows or Mac) don't sometimes break when
upgrading--I've been running Fedora for awhile now, where every update
can be an adventure--but after all the hype, I thought it was not a good
thing.  If it was one of those Just Me issues, I'd shrug, but as I said,
judging from the forums a lot of people are having serious issues. 

Not that any of this helps you, but just to let you know, apparently,
the upgrade was not a smooth one for many people.
