I've looked for a way to break that but nothing is popping up, yet. Of course, there is still a lot of Manual to get through and several hundred more opportunities to create a total system meltdown before I finish."Icky packages"? Do genuine manly and masculine Linux dudes actually call them that or are these taken from the man package instructions for 14-year-old girls who write everything in purple ink and dot their letter "i" with little hearts? If you can't figure out any other way, a way that should work is to go into aptitude, then request removal of the Icky packages. This should light the display up all red, and you can follow the links to find out why.
However, I am familiar with the "turning red" thingy. It happened when I axed all GNOME stuff and installed only KDE. I felt it was easier to chop it all out and put back only a few things I wanted then to try to remember which was which when editing the disk contents. Too bad about Debian not deleting program names from the main menu when you cut packages, though. More cleanup FNU to look forward to.
