Come to think of it, having followed this thread, I think the power that's
really illustrated here is ssh's ability to encrypt and pipe stdin/stdout
over a network. The same processes could equally well be launched by some
GUI front-end (think popen(3)) -- however it's ssh that's greatly
facilitating the remote backup or monitoring by mapping its stdin and
stdout to those of the remote process.
