Each to their own I suppose. Most web developer types I know write
with end user experience in mind, and tweak for search engines. That
is, of course you want to write a site that is good for end users. And
of course you want traffic to hit your client's site, so I would have
though you would optimise your site for both search bots and end users
:)

And to digress further, I have even seen someone check their site in
grey scale to ensure it looks ok for colour blind people... Nothing
worse than trying to find purple links on a blue background.
