- Subject: [tlug] Linux on Sun Fire X4600
Dear TLUG,
We're in the process of changing our servers at the lab I work in and
it's been decided that our next simulation machine will be a Sun Fire
X4600. I would like to know if anyone has had any experience
installing and administering Linux on it, especially if it's not SuSe
or Red Hat. Are there any intricacies I should be aware of? Any tips
or suggestions for improving performance or avoiding conflicts? I'm
very fond of Debian and have some experience using it as a power user
and sysadmin. Is it possible to use it on this type of hardware
without any issues? For the time being, I'm not considering
source-based distros nor the BSD family, and I'm also setting aside
Solaris and its open-source counterpart to consider Linux as my first
priority.
Thank you,
Marcelo
