Hello!
Well, first of all, I should be sorry too because I think it's my 2nd or 3rd
post in 3 or 4 years... (I'm "read only"...).
I'm not a Mac guru, but I know a little since I bought an iBook G4 3 years
ago.
Apple sales are quite different than PC. In fact, if you have a look in
Apple Store (or any computer shop), you should see: Mac Mini, iMac and Mac
Pro. That's almost all. Because when Apple releases a new computer, the old
version disappears from stores.
However, there are some subversion of iMac (or Mac Pro), but the cost
increase while the computer configuration doesn't change so much (especially
for notebooks).
As for the cost, you'll notice that's the same everywhere. If you buy it in
online Apple store, or in a shop, you'd pay the same.
From these clues, you can have a look in Apple store, then you'll notice
that Mac mini is for low works (internet, word proicessing...), Mac Pro is
for "Pros" or at least for people who works with video, and iMac is for most
of people. Then, your choice will depends mostly on the screen size. (Mac
world is simple...)
About Mac software, since Mac OS X, a lot of softwares made for linux are
also compiled for Mac OS. If you want more, DarwinPorts or Fink will help
you, but you really can live without them (as for me, I used DarwinPorts
only in order to get Sylpheed).
Hope it helps.
Paul
