Yup, flash 9 broke sound for lots of people. They made a change from
OSS to alsa. In ArchLinux, one simply installs a little thing
called alsa-oss (or maybe oss-alsa).
That's probably the cause of your problem, however I don't know the
Ubuntu solution.
