Hi,
Q2: Do other distributions have these udev problems? I.e. is it the kernel's fault, or Fedora's fault? Is anyone using FC6 and finding it better than FC5 (in the "stability/things actually work" sense, not the "cool new features" sense)?
After about one week with FC6, I have found that it sometimes fails to detect my onboard audio (VIA 8237) (I didn't have that problem with FC5) (after a reboot it is ok). Don't know if it is a kernel or udev problem. Everything else seems ok so far.
Q3: Which distributions work well for multimedia, out of the box? I.e. you can play just about any media format you find on the web, without having to recompile things or tweak obscure configuration files, or hunt for codecs.
It's not out of the box, but I have found it easy to become able to play .wmv and .avi files, by downloading xine (you can get it with yum from livna) and copying the codecs from mplayer's site. Only these two steps, without the need to recompile anything
Hector
