Regarding my intermittent hangup on Etch boot: I've got a Knoppix
installation on the same hard drive, which boots up fine. I'm wondering
if there is something in the Knoppix boot command that makes the
difference(?)
This is the section in the grub boot list on Etch:
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.17-2-686
root (hd0,7)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-2-686 root=/dev/sda8 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.17-2-686
savedefault
And this is for Knoppix:
# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for an existing
# linux installation on /dev/sda7.
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.17 Default (on /dev/sda7)
root (hd0,6)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda7 ro
ramdisk_size=100000 lang=us apm=power-off nomce vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img
savedefault
boot
