'fraid it is.

Worse than that, over here in France it's about to become illegal to
even discuss techniques allowing the circumvention of copy protection
systems, which is why I had to give up my howto pages and hand them over
to someone else (they describe how to rip audio CDs and DVD-Videos).

Sickening.

While I understand the principles behind DRM, the whole thing has
gotten completely out of hand. It's the media companies who are writing
our laws now.
