If you're afraid that it's too much to post to the list, 
put it on a web site and post the URL. 

Try a simple "lspci" or "lspci -n" (without the -v option!) 
to get less output. It might be obvious.

Look for some stuff that you earlier wrote about

So look for S3, S3G, UniChrome, IGP

Look in the X log files from Ubuntu and Knoppix 
for clues for what to look for. 

Also remember to post the "Device" sections from 
the X config file from Ubuntu and Knoppix.
