Stephen J. Turnbull wrote:Have you tried the Guarddog FAQ? BitTorrent seems like the kind of service that would generate lots of them!I'm getting the impression (after another couple of days of playing around with this) that my problems are less likely local, and have more to do with the quality/accessibility of the particular torrents that I have been downloading. I finally found a Bittorrent site that provides average download times for particular torrents, and my stats were pretty much in line with what was listed there.I was being thrown off by the fact that in all of the Bittorrent apps I tried (both in Linux and Windows) the little red button stayed on all the time. But it does this even when I am downloading at around 150kbs and uploading at 900kbs, so it seems that for some reason these Bittorrent apps are misreading something in my network. The files seem to download at the same speed in Linux and Windows.A third possibility is that your service comes with a firewall you didn't ask for and probably don't want. :-/This may well be the case--although I haven't run into any Network-wide firewall issues prior to this. But now that you've mentioned this, I think I'll write or call to them about it.Charles> I am on a fiber-optic network in my Manshon. By which you mean FTTH from NTT or something like that?I'm not sure what type it is. There is this large Network provider called E-Mansion (http://www.e-mansion.com/) that provides fiber optic infrastructure and network service for a large number of new apartment complexes in Tokyo. After having dealt with a relatively good local ISP (GOL) for over ten years, I find that the support level of E-Mansion to be significantly inferior. But I'm stuck with it.Anyway, thanks for the food for thought.
