It's a known aggravating bug--err, no, I'm sorry, it's a known feature,
for your benefit.  


The gmail people consider it a feature, that you cannot override. 

Mail sent by you, to a mailing list, will not appear in your inbox to,
in their words, "avoid clutter."

It's the reason I don't use my gmail account for mailing lists.
