Probably not an answer really, but I've also tried various different
software including Lotus Organizer. Luckily, in 1997, I began using
Netscape 4.x (4.03 at first) as home base, and each version of
Netscape through to transferring over to Mozilla has flawlessly kept
the address book in unmolested form. The only complaints being
different alphabetical sorting with Mozilla (not a huge issue, but
slightly irritating) and one version of Mozilla that wouldn't allow
the address book to be imported. Other than that, I have contact info
going back to 1997 that is still whole.

This is one reason I like Mozilla and am distressed at the calls to go
to bloody Thunderbird. I like Mozilla - and so I am unhappy at the
pushes and shoves towards what looks too much like the very much hated
OutHouse and then I hear that Mozilla is turning into a monkey!
Yikes!

CSV files are great - I think if you limit the categories, then it
works better. The more categories, the more errors when going from
one application to another....
