That may a reason to stick with what is supported well. 
I don't see how this favors Seamonkey (Mozilla) over 
Firefox/Thunderbird.

That sounds prudent. 

Set up a CD so that she can use Thunderbird on her husband's 
computer without changing _anything_ on that computer. 
I've seen but can't find right now the links for running 
Firefox and Thunderbird from a CD without installation.

What all does she need to do? I understood that she just needed 
to do email in kanji. What else does she need to do?
