Yes there was, and yes it was in "Idoru". [1]

If there exist TLUGgers who:
a) read past my off-topic warning, and
b) are not yet familiar with William Gibson,
then, please! do yourself a favour and obtain a copy of "Neuromancer"
[2] (also known as the book that started the whole late 80s
"Cyberpunk" craze[3])!

Gibson is wonderful. For my money, he is--with Neal Stephenson--one of
the few science fiction writers who really *groks* the geek pysche,
man!
