Re: [tlug] Should we stop password protecting the TLUG archives?

Hello :)

Discussion about TLUG archives started (AFAIK) because time to time some
newcomer is confused and unable to find what username and password
should he use to get to the archives. Is that right?

In such a case, I think it would be much easier to simply put login and
passwd information in more readily visible place on the TLUG web page.
Than most people will notice and newcomers will not be confused. Right
now, when I visit TLUG web, the archives link is too high to be
displayed at the same "screen" as the login/passwd info [1]. Is this by
intention? Or this info simply put at the end as a consequence of some
(semirandom) historical events?

Indexing by google and other engines is another issue.
If I shall vote here, I vote for a functional TLUG archives search engine
at the TLUG www site. Than would be enough for me. If I want to search
TLUG archives, than I am most probably willing to spent extra few
seconds to go the TLUG www site and insert login/passwd and search for
my special piece of info. Including the email of person, who originally
posted that information. Although I personally do not mind one more extra
search for that particular email of interest. I do not expect these
searches to be frequent, anyway.

If I try to search the archives now, I get:
-----
NOT FOUND
The requested URL /cgi-bin/htsearch was not found on this server.
----

? Why is that?

[1] at my screen (17") and my resolution and my font size etc. But that
I think is not that much important for the point I want to make.

Best regards
Michal
