You are about to fall victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous
of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less
well known is this: "Never go in against an Economist, when *profit* is on the
line".

(more plainly put: newbie, Steve knows what he is talking about, from both a
beancounter and an engineering perspective.  He isn't telling you what you
think you want to hear -- disregard his warning at your peril)
