Wow, hope I didn't make myself sound like a Deb expert, I'm waiting for Stephen or Jonathan to come to your aid. Seriously, I don't remember how I learned the stuff I had on my page. I remember googling when sound didn't work, and finding that information. I don't even remember now if I recompiled the kernel, or used their stock kernel, relying on them automagically detecting it. As Deb's stock kernel has most things in there as modules, I would ~think~ that might work. However, I've only run Deb on two different boxes, and in both cases, it worked by doing what I've described. Because it worked after doing that, I've never investigated further, for example, never run into your situation of an onboard sound card that I don't wish to use. I'm sorry I can't be more help. -- Scott PGP keyID EB3467D6 ( 1B48 077D 66F6 9DB0 FDC2 A409 FA54 D575 EB34 67D6 ) gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys EB3467D6 Buffy: I can't believe you got into Oxford!
