Yes, you can safely shutdown. Even the RPC services like NFS,
NIS will complain if the portmap is required and not running. so no worries.

I am not using nfs or nis and so feel like I don't _need_ it or them 
(rpcbind, portmap and/or nfslock) but read...
I am not running a server on this system either.
