When SATA drive is not connected,Linux will consider the RAID device as primary drive. I think here the problem is that linux couldn't find the driver for your RAID controller (only possible block device). Anyway, in addition to the boot disk, RH created seperate driver disks for rare block/net/PCMCIA devices seperately. Ttry your lick with those additional block device driver disk.btw, if you had created CD-ROMs from RH's iso images, then the first CD should be a bootable one (?) Most of the common vendors network cards are supported (other than some domestic vendors latest/cheapest (like buffallow, corega), check out RH's site for the supported network cards in RHL9. -Thomas -----Original Message----- From: Keith Wilkinson [mailto:nzkiwi@example.com] Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2004 12:52 PM To: tlug@example.com Subject: [tlug] Hardware RAID on RH9 Hope you'll excuse the newbie question: I have a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 M/B with hardware IDE RAID and SATA; The IDE RAID appears as Drive 2 and the SATA as Drive 1. Windows 2000 boots directly off the IDE RAID whether the SATA drive is connected or not, but it appears that LINUX won't (the RAID driver for LINUX has to be loaded for the drives to be visible to LINUX, anyway, and presumably it's not added to the RH9 boot floppy). I vaguely remember a "swap drive numbers" option, intended for SCSI setups (which the RAID emulates), in the RH setup... but -- before I try anything else -- I want to buy a net- work card that is recognized by RH without a kernel recompile :-( Also BootMagic seems to be unable to multi-boot the configuration, whether it's installed on the SATA or RAID. Presumably another option would be to make a boot CD.
