That's exactly the kind of thing I want to avoid.
(The kind of thing that I'm sure would get done wrong if I leave the
users to do it themselves.)
Typically every member of the staff is a member of a few internal
majordomo lists here in the company and the bounces would quickly
pollute the lists.
The BSD vacation package requires you to unsubscribe manually to avoid
this, but since the lists are all internal, perhaps I can have their
name commented out by the program when they submit a vacation notice.

My experience on BugTraq as well. At least, judging by the notices I
recieved, I can say that Exchange is no better at handling this.
