I'm also going to suggest you take a quick look at my newbie faq

It doesn't have help for your problem, but the links about the best way
to ask questions and the like might prove of help.  (For instance, in
this case, we don't know if you have Japanese support enabled, and it
seems as if your problem may be as simple as not having called kinput2
to input Japanese, but we can't be sure from the information given.)

Anyway, take a look at the first link, on Japanese input, and see if
that helps
