[tlug] Japanese IM lacking on RH 8 Gnome

I can see Japanese in Mozilla, and use it in Emacs, and even got the IM 
going once in OpenOffice briefly, but I cannot get Japanese into the 
Gnome applications.

cannaserver is running, and kinput2 is present, but I must be missing 
something.

I installed RH 8 as English main language, with Japanese and Taiwan 
style Chinese as second languages. Even when I boot up in Japanese, I 
can't get the IM to go. Running on a Toshiba Satellite 1415, dual boot 
with WinXP.

Thanks for any advice. I tried to find this on the archives, but I get 
no hits on Red Hat or anything close (another problem-- since I see lots 
of Red Hat discussion when I brouse.)
