Mplayer recent versions 0.90 also works very nicely as
a command-line Webradio player and can play .asx
(Windows Media) streams from a command line.  just
type
mplayer http://yoururl/streamname
(you might want to reduce the buffer size depending on
your bandwidth)

As many stations seem to broadcast in this
proprietary MS format, this works very nicely if
you're working in an MS-free environment.
