- Organization:
I am trying to get Japanese character display and input working in
evolution. I started from an allready installed version of evolution
and have tried to compile all the evolution dependencies with
internationalization support. I am running Gentoo 1.4 with
x11-base/xfree-4.2.1-r2 nls mmx truetype 3dnow
net-mail/evolution-1.2.1 nls doc spell
gnome-base/oaf-0.6.10 nls
gnome-base/bonobo-1.0.21 nls
gnome-base/ORBit-0.5.17 nls
gnome-base/libglade-0.17-r6 nls bonobo
gnome-base/gnome-print-0.35-r3 nls
gnome-extra/gtkhtml-1.1.7-r1 nls gnome
gnome-extra/gal-0.22 nls alsa
app-i18n/canna-3.6-r1 nls
app-i18n/kinput2-3.1 canna freewnn
fonts
x11-misc/kochi-fonts-0.2.20020503
x11-misc/x11fonts-jmk-3.0
x11-misc/shinonome-0.9.8
x11-misc/baekmuk-fonts-2.0-r1
I can get fonts by setting the gthml iso10646-1 font but most just
display a box or line of Japanese characters. Currently I am using
-misc-kochimincho-medium-r-normal--24-231-75-75-c-240-iso8859-1
for the "Fixed width" font. This displays the Japanese characters well
but the english characters all apear double width.
kinput2 -canna &
XMODIFIERS="@example.com=kinput2" LANGUAGE=en_US LANG=ja_JP.eucJP
LC_ALL=ja_JP.eucJP evolution
I get the following error message and I can't input kanji.
Gdk-WARNING **: Missing charsets in FontSet creation
Gdk-WARNING **: JISX0208.1983-0
Gdk-WARNING **: JISX0201.1976-0
The japanese characters in the email headers are displayed as
=?iso-2022-jp?B? some characters ?=
or as boxes. In my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 I have the following
Section "Files"

In /etc/X11/XftConfig I have the
dir "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype"
which is the path for
kochi-mincho.ttf
kochi-gothic.ttf
arialuni.ttf
I also have x11-libs/xft-2.0.1 installed but I gather that isn't used by
evolution. Any ideas on how to get this going would be greatly
appreciated.
