Hehe - I used a friend's coolpix 5000 for a day or two and it really rocks

There's a relatively easy work-around. Throw the camera into manual mode.
You can set the aperture, shutter speed and white point how you like with an
on-screen indication of whether you're under/over-exposed. You'll get
excellent results. It's the camera's automatic program which sucks, not the
flash.
