Wait!  After importing your key, gpg gives me a different fingerprint:

pub  1024D/BE40FF3E 2002-07-26 Big O <big0@example.com>
     Key fingerprint = 27A3 6C84 924C 6E16 7B8E  9739 97BA A4E0 BE40 FF3E
sub  2048g/B9479511 2002-07-26

The third 16-bit word is "824C" vs "924C".

Is it a typo in your .sig or has pgp.mit.edu been 0wn3d? :-)
