Thanks to all for the replies.  Just a few more questions.  I understand that 
to get the setup I'd like I need an ADSL connection and modem, a router, and 
a hub.  Is there anything else that I need.  I understand that some routers 
have built in hubs, allowing you to setup a LAN with just the one unit, plus 
of course the modem.  I want to have a connection with a little plugs as 
possible.  Do I need a switcher? I've seen them at the shops and in 
catalogues but what exacly does a switcher do?  Are they to use one monitor 
with two computers or do they have other uses.  What  is an NTTP Server?  You 
also mentioned NAT and DHCP.  I've heard of DHCP but don't understand what it 
means.  I'm using Redhats ppp internet dialler with my present ISDN 
connection, which for some reason works at a snails pace on linux.  I gather 
that If I donwload Roaring Penguin that'll handle the pppoE side of it.  Once
