G'morning tluggers, Does anyone know what the latest and greatest p2p client and network are. I understand open nap is pretty popular, but I am unable to connect to any servers. On a related note, I watched Star Trek Enterprise episodes 1+2 in mpeg and avi using freely available open source tools, that I quickly installed with the debian packaging system. And it worked great! Video and mulitimedia for linux is possibly one of the most exciting fields going on. It also felt good to know that a lot of people, MS, and probably Paramount, would just hate what I am up to. Check this out: I got Grip up and running with lame. Everything was going ok until I started getting errors trying to access the cd drive. In one case (where I tried to rip again) I produced several grip processes I could not kill. And the system tried repeatedly to re-access the device. May 25 15:54:49 debian kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } May 25 15:54:49 debian kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0xb4 May 25 15:54:49 debian kernel: ATAPI device hdc: May 25 15:54:49 debian kernel: Error: Aborted command -- (Sense key=0x0b) May 25 15:54:49 debian kernel: (vendor-specific error) -- (asc=0xbf, ascq=0x00) May 25 15:54:49 debian kernel: The failed "Read CD" packet command was: May 25 15:54:49 debian kernel: "be 04 00 00 21 1e 00 00 06 f8 00 00 " This resulted in a situation where I had to reboot. Or maybe I don't know enough low level commands for handling block devices. My computer fell off the luggage cart when I was bringing it home, and I have been worried about the cd drive ever since. For example I have never been able to play cds through the sound card. Not sure why. This drive may be partially hosed. It reads cds under normal circumstances, but when the drive spins up to rip a cd, all havok breaks loose after about 5 tracks. can any kernel hackers make sense of that log message? Time for a new drive, -mm
