Hrm.  I don't run claws, so I am not up on what changes it makes.  
You have multiple Font selections under 
Configuration->Common Preferences->Display right?  Try setting them all
to the same font and see if that fixes it.

That is really my only thought.  Course, the best solution would be to
post on the sylpheed-claws list and see if they can provide you with
answers.
