There was a good solution to this dilema for a now defunct list.

A mail was routinely sent out saying that it cost US$10 to
[un|de]subscribe from the mailing list.  The indignant replies alone were
worth taking the time to read the list.

At the bottom of that email (more than the Eudora preview window for
sure) was an offer for a coupon to [un|de]subscribe for free at a website
with a cgi form.

Was great fun.
