Hello,
This is what i have: IBM A21m P800 mhz windows 98se 20Gb 128Mb RAM
I am trying to install RH 7.2. I am at the partitionong stage. I try to do a auto partition. however i get the following message in bold text below::
I am still searching on the Red Hat site as to where I can get their non-telephone"install support level" support. In the meantime, I am asking anyone here if they have had experience with installing RH 7.2 on a A21m or similar machine.
I think the problem has something to do with FAT 32.
However i dunno!
I have windows 98 installed ,
the error message i receive after i attempt to configure the partitions at the GUi of automatic partitioning is:
"Could not allocate requested partitions: Partitioning failed:
Could not allocate partitions as primary partitions."
/dev/hda
L /dev/hda1 1-2584 19077Mb
This is displayed after clicking the error message`s"OK" button.
I have experimented with FIPS which works especially in FIPS -d
which is debug mode
however the partition for windows which i allocated to be smaller on the hard drive than the RH to be one'....somehow, mysteri! ously on the RH.7.2 installer appears as a part of the larger of the 2 partitions and the smaller one yet to assigned a OS etc.
Is there a Guru out there, a shedder of Light?:-)?An IBM guru offered this, but it could be out of my cognitive threshold as RH7.2 manual suggests not ot use it, unless experienced with this program:
"I would suggest deleting all partitions using fdisk, then running "fdisk \mbr" and then re-trying to use Linux partitioning tool."
Any help greatly appreciated , SHANE
