I went to the Linux on Laptop webpage and looked up the information for you laptop. on one of the web page http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/portege3440CT/ it says "according to Toshiba, the BIOS is not capable of booting the 2.88MB boot image on the first CD." I guess you were right, the bios did limited the boot image. "Starting with SuSE Linux 7.2, the installation floppies do also include the necessary USB drivers to talk to USB storage devices like the floppy drive or a CD-ROM drive. For SuSE Linux 7.1, I had to create a special boot floppy, that included the necessary network driver on the same disk, because you could not load additional drivers from another floppy disk - linuxrc could not access the USB floppy drive after the kernel had booted." So, that might be a good ideal as well. you can take a look of that page (http://www.suse.de/~grimmer/portege3440CT/) and maybe find it use for to your problem later Mancy, Raymond wrote: > I am using a Toshiba portege 3440ct....funny thing is, is that I am sure I > have gotten it to load the disc before (thats how I originally got RH on > it), for some reason it wont boot anymore though. its not the disc which is > at fault, and its not the computer either (well...it could be the bios as > other ppl have said the same to me about loading RH on a toshiba) but it > will boot other disc's...i.e windows disc's. > > It looks as if my computer all of a sudden decided it didnt like linux > anymore...and wont let me load it. > > Ray > > -----Original Message----- > From: roy lo [mailto:roylo@example.com] > Sent: Monday, February 11, 2002 10:53 PM > To: tlug@example.com > Subject: Re: [tlug] Making new boot image for RH cd... > > > List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:tlug-request@example.comsubject=unsubscribe> > Precedence: list > Resent-Sender: tlug-request@example.com > > Mancy, Raymond wrote: > >>Hi, >> >> >>I figured out why my toshiba laptop cannot boot RH CD's....I hear that it >> > is > >>because the image is 2.88mb...too big for the bios apparently. >> >> > really?
