OK, after looking at the 2.2.14 kernel source I now know that the via82cxxx
driver in 2.2.14 just tries to load the sb driver.

Try upgrading to 2.2.19, that one includes a _real_ via82cxxx driver which
should work even if Soundblaster emulation is disable in your setup.
