Now it becomes almost comical---as it's late here (NYC) I thought, well,
let me add that to the .xinitrc for user scottro and see what happens,
before going to sleep.
X wouldn't start. I just got a grey screen with the mouse as an X. Hrrm,
I thought, ok, let's take that line out. Same thing. Now, it won't start
unless I remove the kinput2 -canna line as well. Not sure what I did here.

I should mention that this is a learning install, so I can break it,
reinstall it, whatever. For my more serious Linux work at home, I'm using
the RH 7.1 English. I think I better let this wait till tomorrow though,
I'm punchy.

Hrmmm---well, "got" is past tense, so that's
appropriate. :) (Seriously, if it worked before, I'm sure I'll track down
what I did and get it working again.)

Ok, but that will have to wait till tomorrow--I did do a quick attempt at
reconfiguration with RH's startup tool, but no luck. From what I've heard
here and there (not serious searches on deja, simply from talking to
friends) it seems that most folks using the intellimouse optical don't have
much luck getting the wheel to work as third button--but everyone (all 2 or
3 people) has gotten the 3rd button emulation by pushing both left and
right buttons.

Frustrating as it becomes sometimes, it reminds me of why I began playing
with computers in the first place. About 2 months ago, I thought, Gee, why
don't I take a 2 week break from studying for these Cisco exams and go back
to playing with Linux. Hrrm, a long two weeks. :)
