Oh, they should be. Core Ghostscript development is oriented toward the paying customers. People who are smart _and_ well-funded enough to pay for development general have a pretty good idea of what printer they want to buy, so compiling it in ain't a big problem. Peter Deutsch told me he thought .so drivers would be cool -- but he doesn't want to deal with cross-platform support (Ghostscript builds for more platforms than even gcc!) The only other major package I know of that isn't heading in the direction of loadable modules for optional functionality or drivers is ... the whole GNU Project. Because rms thinks they encourage people to use non-free software. CP/M-80, huh? One of these days I'll type in Hendrix's Small-C again.... That was such a revelation after BASIC and Fortran (and it allowed me to compile my first free Lisp, ooh, cool)! -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 _________________ _________________ _________________ _________________ What are those straight lines for?
