My Yamaha RTA 50i Router doesn't seem to work under RedHat Linux 7.0. I could get it to work thru my ethernet connection, but the serial connection doesn't work. The following is a log of what I got from RPHPPP under GNOME: ====================================== WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.41 Initializing modem. Sending: ATZ OK Modem initialized. Sending: ATDT 03-5201-6800 Waiting for carrier. CONNECT 64000 Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately. Starting pppd at Thu May 10 04:53:53 2001 PPP daemon has died! (exit code = 0) Disconnecting at Thu May 10 04:53:58 2001 Auto Reconnect will be attempted in 5 seconds pppd error! Look for an explanation in /var/log/messages. ====================================== Also, when I checked /var/log/messages, I found this: ====================================== May 10 05:00:20 KORD pppd[3387]: pppd 2.3.11 started by root, uid 0 May 10 05:00:20 KORD pppd[3387]: Using interface ppp8 May 10 05:00:20 KORD pppd[3387]: Connect: ppp8 <--> /dev/ttyS0 May 10 05:00:20 KORD kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. May 10 05:00:23 KORD last message repeated 6 times May 10 05:00:23 KORD pppd[3387]: Hangup (SIGHUP) May 10 05:00:23 KORD pppd[3387]: Modem hangup May 10 05:00:23 KORD pppd[3387]: Connection terminated. May 10 05:00:23 KORD pppd[3387]: Exit. May 10 05:00:23 KORD kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. ====================================== The messages also had the following: ====================================== May 10 04:52:03 KORD ifup-ppp: pppd started for ppp0 on /dev/ttyS0 at 115200 May 10 04:52:03 KORD pppd[3084]: pppd 2.3.11 started by root, uid 0 May 10 04:52:03 KORD kernel: registered device ppp7 May 10 04:52:03 KORD pppd[3084]: Using interface ppp7 May 10 04:52:03 KORD pppd[3084]: local IP address **.**.**.** May 10 04:52:03 KORD pppd[3084]: remote IP address **.**.**.** May 10 04:53:03 KORD WvDial: Sending: ATDT **-****-**** May 10 04:53:03 KORD WvDial: Waiting for carrier. May 10 04:53:03 KORD WvDial: NO CARRIER May 10 04:53:03 KORD WvDial: No Carrier! Trying again. May 10 04:53:04 KORD kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. ====================================== I have no clue as to what this means. It seems like the /dev/ttySO device isn't pointing to my router. But, this is the only "modem-like" device I have attached to my computer. Also, my IP address doesn't seem to be correct (neither does the remote IP seem to be correct). Any advice is appreciated! Thanks! _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
